Henrietta Bartlett is 92 years young, but that has never slowed her down. When her granddaughter Kid comes to Grand Bank for the weekend, they catch the biggest codfish ever seen on the Burin Peninsula. Hiding the illegal catch from fisheries officers is a walk in the park for Old Missus Bartlett, but things get more complicated when an unexpected and mysterious relative arrives. A brand new play by Artistic Director Kevin Woolridge.

Journalist Alan Humber has returned to Newfoundland, for the first time since he was adopted as a child, to investigate the death of his father on the schooner the Mabel Dorothy thirty years previous. Wayne MacPhail’s Abandon Hope Mabel Dorothy is a haunting and beautiful play, filled with loss, love, and longing, and ultimately hope and forgiveness. It is a play that will stay with you long after you’ve left the theatre.

THE MEAL

A traditional Grand Bank potluck is designed to remind you of the family-style Potluck dinners you’ve enjoyed since childhood. It’s served as a meal-on-one-plate and also includes dessert, tea or coffee, and a glass of apple juice. It starts with a piece of country-style deep fried chicken, a piece of roast beef or roast turkey alongside french fries with gravy and a bread dressing made with summer savory – a Newfoundland classic!

Also, three homemade chicken balls sit atop a bed of vegetable fried rice next to three pieces of slow-roasted pork short ribs, all in a rich sweet-and-sour sauce.

A fresh homemade dinner roll with butter completes the potluck experience.

Delicious!
